DOT to share parkway plans

Posted: Sunday, December 02, 2007

The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold an open house Thursday to provide details on plans to extend William Few Parkway.

//

The open house, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Greenbrier High School, will provide information about the proposed reconstruction and extension of William Few Parkway to Hardy McManus Road.

"This will be where we explain the project," DOT spokeswoman Cissy McNure said.

No formal presentation will be made at the informal, drop-in meeting, but DOT representatives will be there to answer questions. Maps of the proposed project also will be on display, McNure said.

The project would reconstruct the existing William Few Parkway and extend the road to meet Hardy McManus Road.

McNure said construction is expected to begin in late summer 2008 and take 18 to 24 months to complete

A wetland area is in the path of the road extension, and wetland losses will be mitigated by a restoration project.
