Thanksgiving feast

Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1974, was a big day at Augusta Country Day School when all the children and staff became Pilgrims and Indians. The students and staffers transformed themselves into the early era of 1621, the first reported time of a period of Thanksgiving in the New World. A feast, using the foods introduced by the Indians to the Pilgrims, was served at noon.

New uniforms

These days, the Grovetown City Police have a new look. Not only are the uniforms new, but the officers themselves are virtual newcomers.

City Councilman Leon Davidson said the new uniforms were bought to give the officers an identity of their own.

"This way the people of Grovetown will be able to recognize their city police instantly. They will be separated from other law enforcement officials who travel through the town," he commented.

The officers are Chief Jack Perry, Pat Ferguson, John Cook and Thomas Greene.

Region champs

The Harlem High Bulldogs and the Morgan County High School Bulldogs fought to a scoreless tie in their game Friday night at Washington-Wilkes Stadium for the Region 7-A championship.

But Harlem came out winners 3-0 by the penetration rule, which gives one point for most yards gained, 1 point for most first downs and one point for the most times a team penetrates their opponent's 20-yard line.

Workshop

Rep.-elect Ray Owens, County Commission Chairman Jim Blanchard and County Commissioner L.F. "Buck" Story attended a workshop for county commissioners in Athens, Ga., to discuss with other commissioners from the state to recommend to the upcoming legislative session of the 1975 General Assembly.

It was pointed out at the meeting that House Speaker Tom Murphy had promised that tax relief would be among the first matters considered in the new session.
