Fair winners

Harlem FHA members announced winners in the FHW Sewing Contest in the Exchange Club Fair in Augusta. Rose Hardin won first place with her apron and second place with her skirt. Calre Davis won fifth place with her dress.The Harlem Chapter has invitations to visit the Dearing and Thomson chapters.

Basketball begins

Jimmy McDaniel has been elected captain of the boys' basketball team at Harlem for this season. Jimmy is the only returning player from last year's first string, since Robert Crawford moved to Evans.

Carolyn Knox has been re-elected as captain of the girls' team. Carolyn is a transfer from Leah, where she played first string guard last year.

The Harlem High teams will open the home season of the Evans Black Knights Nov. 9, 1956. It will be the second game for Evans.

It is the season opener for Harlem, and a large crowd is anticipated to fill the recently renovated Evans gymnasium.

Future teachers

Five students from Columbia County are attending Georgia Teachers College this fall. They are: Raymond E. Belue Jr., son of Mrs. Hazel Belue of Harlem, and John Charles Hahaffey, son of Mrs. Beulah Broyles of Martinez, freshmen; Eugene Daniel Baston, son of Mr. and Mrs. O'Neal Baston of Evans, sophomore; and Clifford Allen O'Neal, son of Mr. and Mrs. G.B. O'Neal of Martinez, and Patsy Joyce Powell, daughter of Mrs. C.P. Powell of Grovetown, seniors.
