Here are my picks for this week. So far on the year I'm 31-8.
//
Evans (6-2, 5-2) at Glynn Academy (6-2, 5-2)
The once 6-0 Knights are now in a must-win situation. A win this week will likely earn Evans a playoff spot. A loss, and Evans will need some help. So with their destiny in their own hands, the Knights travel for the biggest game of the season riding a two-game losing streak. Glynn Academy beat Ware County but has lost to Brunswick and Statesboro. This one will come down to the wire.
Prediction: Evans 17, Glynn Academy 16
Greenbrier (4-5, 3-5) at Wayne County (1-7, 1-6)
The 'Pack has had a brutal stretch (Statesboro, Brunswick, Ware County and Glynn Academy) in the last four weeks. They should be able to get to .500 with Wayne County on tap for Friday. The Yellow Jackets have managed to score only 16 points in their last five games.
Prediction: Greenbrier 34, Wayne County 7
Harlem (2-6, 1-2) at Butler (0-8, 0-3)
The Bulldogs should notch their third win. Butler has had a season to forget after being outscored 323-44 through eight games. The team is on the verge of back-to-back 0-10 seasons.
Prediction: Harlem 27, Butler 6
Lakeside (3-6, 2-6) at Effingham Co. (4-4, 4-3)
The Panthers have picked a bad time to square off with Effingham County. The Rebels are riding high after Friday's win over Statesboro. The Panthers did post their highest offensive output Friday, but it came against one-win Wayne County.
Prediction: Effingham County 23, Lakeside 13
Augusta Christian (8-2) vs. Pinewood Prep (6-4)
Round one, South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AAA state playoffs
The Lions are coming off their first SCISA loss; however, they did topple Pinewood Prep in the regular season, 42-28. Augusta Christian can't go into this game looking ahead. With a 31.4 points-per-game average and 28 or more points in all but three games, Pinewood can put points on the board.
Prediction: AC 38, Pinewood Prep 20
