Trick-or-treaters can get a head start on Halloween while helping to feed needy families Tuesday.

From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., the county will hold its seventh annual Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat event at Patriots Park.

"The only admission is one canned-good donation per person, and it will be distributed to local food banks," said Liz Stockstill, a county community events assistant.

The gym at Patriots Park will be lined with dozens of area businesses passing out candy and other goodies, and door prizes will be awarded.

"I'd say the main goal is to provide children a trick-or-treat experience that is safe and fun," Stockstill said.

The event features free soda and hot dogs provided by Rinker Materials. There also will be children's games and inflatables at the event, Stockstill said.

Businesses also are urged to participate in the event to hand out candy to the children and information to their parents.
