In honor of Halloween, Columbia County is bringing a little fright to the Performing Arts Center this weekend in the form of a three-night horror movie series.

The movie series includes a double-feature beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the performing arts center inside the Columbia County Library.

"Last year, we did Friday night films, but those were family movies," said Brooke Willis, a county community events specialist.

This time, the Halloween movie series will feature showings of the contemporary horror movies Sleepy Hollow and The Ring on Friday; 1980s films Poltergeist and The Shining on Saturday; and the gothic horror movies Frankenstein and Dracula on Sunday.

"We tried to pick movies that were more suspenseful rather than gory," Willis said, adding the movie series is appropriate for those in their teens and older.

The event is free, though donations will be accepted. No snacks or other refreshments except bottled water will be allowed inside the theater, Willis said.
