Bargain hunters and those looking to turn unwanted household items or other goods into cash should look no further Saturday than a community yard sale in Appling.

First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, at 6269 Cobbham Road, will play host to the community bazaar from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Civic organizations and the public are invited to set up booths for the bazaar, which benefits Mount Up Ministries, an outreach of three Appling area churches. Spaces are $10 each and sellers must supply their own tables for the event, said Tina Smith, an event coordinator.

"There's spaces available, that's for sure," she said.

Mount Up is, a ministry jointly founded by First Mount Carmel, Walnut Grove and Rehoboth Baptist churches, operates a summer enrichment program for area youth.

Proceeds will help the ministry expand its mission, Smith said.

Those who wish to rent space can sell housewares, clothes or other typical yard sale items, but food is not permitted.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Smith said the bazaar will also feature information about prevention and cancer detection.
