I read with interest Ashley Brown's article in the Oct. 14 News-Times, "Picking an MVP at Evans is tough call." I just wanted to point out that a few of us in Columbia County remember another great Evans High School team in 1980, on the new (present) campus, with a 9-2-1 record reaching the second round of the state playoffs and finally losing to Lowndes County 12-26 . Lowndes County eventually won the AAAA Championship.

The 1980 Region 4AAAA Champions were coached by Head Coach Dexter Poss, Assistant Coach Terry Holder and assistants Mickey Derrick, Jay Hodgin, Jimmy Connor and Tommy Tucker.

Ball players on that Evans team, to name a few, were Guy Ball (RB), Rusty Hendrix (C), Harry Lane (RB), Judson Luke (T/K), Mark Marlowe (RB), Mark Stachowiak (G/LB), Frank Norman (RB), Brian Reeder (E), Hugh Rhodes (G), Terry Ward (QB), Andy Warlick (G/T), Ed Williams (QB) and Doug Young (T).

At the time I was president of the Booster Club.
