Harlem advances to South State Sectional

Harlem's softball team brought home a runner-up trophy this past weekend at the Region 3-AAA softball tournament in Savannah, Ga.

The Lady Bulldogs took the toughest path through the region tournament bracket. Harlem beat Liberty County 4-0 to start the tournament Friday but lost to South Effingham in the second round.

The Lady Bulldogs worked their way up the losers' bracket with a win over Richmond Hill 10-4 on Friday and with Saturday wins over Cross Creek and Thomson.

Harlem faced South Effingham in the Region 3-AAA championship. Lady Bulldog senior Brittany Newsome threw a no-hitter, but errors from the defense allowed South Effingham to win 3-1.

Harlem (25-10) advanced to the Class AAA South State Sectional in Dublin, Ga. The Lady Bulldogs will take on Region 1-AAA No. 3 seed Worth County on Friday at 6 p.m.
