County finances examined
The presentments of the September term of the Columbia County Grand Jury are thorough in the area of county finances.
They show, for instance, that the county commissioners finished the previous six-month period - from March 1 to Aug. 1 - with a balance of $808.94.
Another highlight of the presentments shows remarkable success in back tax collections. According to the tax commissioner, 1960 tax fi fas amount to $3,294.46, with fi fas on 1959 and previous years totaling only $2,978.23.
Only a few improvements were recommended. The jury said more space is needed in the Clerk of Court's office, and recommended that all broken windows in the jail be replaced.
Football score of 13-6 proves popular
Columbia County football teams saw scores of 13-6 give one local team a victory and the other a defeat. Harlem came out over Wrens by 13-6, while Hephzibah used that score to down Evans.
