Teacher of the Year announcement Thursday

Columbia County's 2007-08 Teacher of the Year will be announced at a Thursday banquet at Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

The five finalists are Evans Elementary first-grade teacher Carole Ayers, North Harlem Elementary fourth-grade teacher Wendy Kersey, River Ridge Elementary music teacher Danielle Callan, Riverside Elementary first-grade teacher Amy Coleman and Riverside Middle seventh-grade teacher Jane ElLaissi.
The winner will vie for state Teacher of the Year honors later in the school year.
Each school selected its own Teacher of the Year, and the individual school representatives automatically qualified for the systemwide title. A three-judge panel pared the list of 28 teachers down to the five finalists.
