Fair pageant


Contestants are being sought for the 2007 Miss Columbia County Fair Scholarship Pageant to be held Saturday. Sponsored by the Columbia County Merchants Association, the pageant is open to single women ages 17-24, with judging in interview, swimsuit and evening gown competition. Bluegrass concert

The Byrd Family will present a concert of bluegrass gospel music at 7 p.m. Friday at the Purvis Community School, on Highway 17 between Thomson and Wrens, Ga. For information, call (706) 651-1971.

Animal blessing

The Church of the Holy Comforter will hold its annual Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Columbia County Memorial Gardens in Evans, with free treats for pets and owners. Voter drives

Columbia County's Board of Elections will hold voter registration drives at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Lakeside High School football game; at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Harlem High football game; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Oliver Hardy Festival in Harlem; 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Evans High football game; and at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Greenbrier High football game. Church series

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church will offer a free five-part series on the relationship between science and religion at 6:45 p.m. each Sunday, starting Sept. 30. Each session will include a lecture by Dr. Fred Silva and discussion led by the Rev. Michael Roverse. Call (706) 650-9827.
