After-school club

Reed Creek Park is forming two Young Naturalist after-school clubs for pupils in kindergarten-second grade, and third-fifth grades. The clubs will meet twice each month. The first meeting for younger pupils is at 4:30 p.m. Thursday; older pupils meet at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4. For information, call (706) 210-4027.

Hardy fest

The city of Harlem is accepting applications for crafters, vendors and entries for the parade for the 19th annual Oliver Hardy Festival, to be held Oct. 6. For information, call (706) 556-0043, or go to www.harlemga.org.

Octoberbest

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 192 in Evans will hold Octoberfest starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday until food runs out. Cost is $5 per plate. A silent auction also will be held. Call (706) 863-8728.

Tax helpers

The Augusta-area AARP Tax-Aide program is seeking volunteers with computer experience to help low- to medium-income citizens with income taxes. A free training course will be held in December and January. District Coordinator Bill Kozel will be available at the Columbia County Library from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Livestock program

Sign-up is in progress at the Farm Service Agency in Thomson for the Livestock Compensation Program for farmers in Columbia, McDuffie, Warren and Richmond counties. The program compensates producers for feed losses occurring between Jan. 1, 2005, and Feb. 28, 2007, because of natural disasters such as drought. Call (706) 595-1339, ext. 2.

Book fairs

- Lakeside Middle School's fall book fair will be held through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Family night will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

- The Greenbrier Elementary School fall Scholastic Book Fair will be held each day through Friday in the school media center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

School carnival
