Greenbrier-Evans is game to watch

Posted: Wednesday, September 19, 2007

After a 4-0 week, I stand at 10-1 this season. Evans was extremely impressive in its 37-10 blowout of Lakeside, and Augusta Christian got its offense rolling once again with a 52-point outburst. This week has a couple of interesting matchups including a huge game between Greenbrier and Evans.

Greenbrier (2-1) at Evans (2-0)

Forget that these two schools hate each other (sorry folks, but it is true). The winner of this matchup will be in prime shape for a playoff spot, and the loser might be on the outside looking in. Evans looked great in dispatching Lakeside, but I have a feeling this one will be much closer.

Evans 23, Greenbrier 17

Lakeside (1-2) vs. Richmond Academy (0-3)

Richmond Academy is still looking for their first victory but seems to be much improved over last season. The Panthers will need Chad Chandler to generate a couple of big plays if they want to get back to .500. For Chandler to get anything done, he has to get better protection this week.

ARC 16, Lakeside 13

Augusta Christian (3-1) vs. Porter Gaud (1-2)

The Lions will be tough to beat in SCISA this season, and that includes this week with Porter Gaud. Augusta Christian has more ammo than most of their opponents. They might not win by 44, but they will win.

ACS 37, Porter Gaud 9

Player to keep an eye on:

Tom Mudrak (6-2, 205 pounds, senior) Lakeside

Mudrak was under the radar last season despite 50 tackles and five sacks. This season Mudrak is off to a great start. The Panther defensive end leads the team in tackles and sacks and has a 30-yard touchdown on a fumble recovery against Evans. Mudrak, Kyle Tau, Kyle Tudor and Ross Ferguson give the Panthers a solid defense.
