Camden Military Academy local achievements for 2006-07

Cadet Curtis Jamar Pickard, ninth grade, of Evans, son of Cheryl and Curtis Pickard, has been promoted to the 10th grade/sergeant. Awards include lettering in golf, most valuable player for musician who has improved most during the year, and golfer most improved.

Cadet Michael Dawson Hudspeth, 11th grade, of Evans, graduated May 20. He is the son of Jan and Paige Hudspeth. Awards include Gold Star for first and second semester.

Cadet Nathan L. Hatley, 12th grade, of Evans, graduated May 20. He is the son of Ethel F. Hatley. Awards include Gold Star second semester.

Basic training

Army Reserve Pvt. Anthony T. Turley has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. He is the son of Jacquline Buchley, of Grovetown, and brother of Tyron Bettis, of Edgefield, S.C. Turley is a 2005 graduate of Harlem High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Robert K. Lunati, son of Sherri M. Loomer, of Evans, and Louis Lunati, of Cordova, Tenn., recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Lunati is a 2005 graduate of First Assembly Christian High School of Memphis, Tenn.

Army Pfc. Joshua C. Bush has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. Bush is the son of Doug Bush, of Evans.

Reported for duty

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Brian D. Hilliard, son of Linda Hilliard of Grovetown, recently reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District, Nashville, Tenn. Hilliard is a 1992 graduate of Butler High School and joined the Navy in February 1993.

Basic training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Levi Turner Jr. has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Levi and Marlene Turner, of Martinez. Turner is a 2006 graduate of Evans High School.

Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice

Marvin G. Campbell Jr., a 2004 graduate of Evans High School, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

VMI Dean's List

The following Virginia Military Institute cadets are among the 457 cadets who were recently named to the Deans' List for the second semester of academic year 2006-07: Peter J. Borchelt, a rising senior from Evans, is majoring in mechanical engineering. Borchelt's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joel P. Borchelt. Daniel L. Welsh, a rising sophomore from Evans, is majoring in economics and business. Welsh's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Welsh.
