Chaney is member of pistol team
Master Sgt. Billie R. Chaney, of Harlem, is a member of the Fort Gordon rifle team that will compete in the National Championships at Camp Perry, Ohio, on Aug. 20-29. A native of Midland, Texas, Sgt. Chaney is an instructor with the Provost Marshal General School's weapons committee.
Evans schools to open Aug. 31
The Evans Public schools will open for the 1959-1960 school year on Aug. 31.
The school day will begin at 8:45 a.m. and will end at 3:10 p.m. Lunch will be served the first day of school.
Children who did not register last spring will register on Thursday, Aug. 27, starting at 9 a.m.
Central HD Club meets
The Central Home Demonstration Club met Aug. 12 for the club's regular meeting at the Central Club House.
Mrs. Jim Usry, vice president, presided over the meeting and gave the devotional.
Mrs. P.E. Ogletree and Mrs. Roy Williams were appointed to look after the fair booth.
The demonstration was the making of strands to hold the trays made by previous members.
Snider receives assignment
Army Pfc. Leroy F. Snider Jr. of Martinez was recently assigned to the 5th Artillery in Rockville, Md.
The 21-year-old entered the Army last May and is a member of the artillery's Battery D.
Snider attended the Academy of Richmond County and was employed by King Manufacturing Co.
