Reese installed as head of Legion
A Martinez Legionnaire has been installed as commander of the 11th District American Legion Post.
Jack Reese, of Martinez, a past Commander of American Legion Post 292, of Evans, was installed in ceremonies on July 19 at the Departmental Convention held in Albany, Ga.
Currently, Reese is serving on the National Security Commission and is also Second Chef de Train of La Societe des 40 Hommes et Chevaux, whose membership is composed of outstanding Legionnaires.
UGA student new Chief Advocate
Walter McGill, Jr., a junior at the University of Georgia was recently elected Chief Advocate for the Defender Advocate Society at the university.
The Defender Advocate Society comprises students who prosecute and defend students in student courts.
As Chief Advocate, McGill will supervise and argue all cases for the University in the student courts.
McGill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter McGill Sr., of Martinez.
Association names Woman of the Year
The Golf Chapter of American Businesswoman's Association met recently to honor Sarah Owens, who was selected as its Woman of the Year.
Owens is the supervisor of the Richmond County School System and was chosen for her outstanding achievements in the chapter.
The American Business-woman's Association is composed of Columbia County residents and businesswomen.
