The Children's Resource Center, at 6347 Columbia Road in Appling, operated by the Columbia County Foundation for Children, is holding a $3 bag sale on summer clothing. The center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of each month. For information or to make donations, call (706) 541-2849.

Watermelon fest

The fourth annual Tom Watson Watermelon Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Hill, in Thomson, with games, contests, arts and crafts vendors and live music. For information, go to www.hickory-hill.org, or call (706) 595-7777.

Orientation

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Augusta, will hold a parent orientation meeting for the fall Mother's Day Out program at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 in St. Patrick Hall. Spaces are available for children walking through age 4 and begin Aug. 20. For information, call Cheryl Weinand at (706) 228-4887.

Church revival

Bethesda Baptist Church, 5793 Old Augusta Highway, Harlem, will hold revival services starting at 11 a.m. Aug. 5, followed by dinner on the grounds and a gospel sing. Services will continue at 7 p.m. Aug. 6-8. For information, call (706) 556-6818.

Libraries closed

Columbia County libraries will be closed Aug. 8 for an in-service staff training day.

Keep Columbia County Beautiful and Waste Management have set up phone book recycling bins in the Government Center, in Evans, at Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue headquarters on Desoto Drive, in Martinez, and at the fire stations on Furys Ferry Road, Oakley Pirkle Road and William Few Parkway.
