The public is invited to nominate candidates for Columbia County Arts Inc. third annual Individual Artist award, given to a living Columbia County artist who has dedicated himself or herself to excellence, growth, support and availability of the arts in Columbia County. Vendors wanted

Arts and crafts vendors are being sought for Columbia County's Summertime on the Canal festival, 4-11 p.m. Aug. 3 at Savannah Rapids Pavilion. For information, call (706) 312-7194.

Watermelon fest

The Fourth Annual Tom Watson Watermelon Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 4 at Hickory Hill, in Thomson, with a games, contests, arts and crafts vendors and live music. For information, go to www.hickory-hill.org, or call (706) 595-7777.

Recyling available

Keep Columbia County Beautiful and Waste Management have set up phone book recycling bins in the Government Center, in Evans, at Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue headquarters on Desoto Drive, in Martinez, and at the fire stations on Furys Ferry Road, Oakley-Pirkle Road and William Few Parkway.
