University of West Georgia Dean's List

Kara Aubrey Hartman, of Appling, Laura Ann Schmidt, of Evans, and Laura Elizabeth Carpenter Ellington, of Martinez, were named to the spring Dean's List for achieving a grade-point average of 3.5.

University of Mobile spring Dean's List

Larrie Reece, of Evans, has been named to the Dean's List for spring semester at the University of Mobile for maintaining a 3.5 grade-point average.

Savannah College of Art, Design grads

The following local students recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design:

Christopher Gordon Blaker, of Augusta, received a bachelor of fine arts degree in video/film; Virginia Caroline Brannen, of Augusta, received a bachelor of fine arts degree in illustration; Michael Joseph Dorsey, of Evans, received a bachelor of fine arts degree in animation.

Auburn University spring Dean's List

Scott C. Morris, of Evans, in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, and Stephanie P. Fransoso, of Evans, in the College of Sciences and Mathematics, were named to the spring 2007 semester Dean's List at Auburn University.

Auburn University bachelor's degree

Allison M. Defer, of Evans, graduated this spring with a bachelor degree in Information Systems Management.

Butler University spring Dean's List

Colin Quinn, of Evans, in the College of Business Administration/Finance, was named to the Dean's List for spring semester at Butler University.

Medal awarded in skills competition

Shala Bussey, of Appling, a student at Augusta Technical College, was awarded the postsecondary gold medal in Job Skill Demonstration B at the 2007 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

Industry support of the SkillsUSA Championships is valued at more than $30 million in donated time, equipment, cash and material.

Contests are run and judged by industry experts using industry standards for employment.

Contests assess hands-on, employability and academic skills. More than 1,200 industry judges participated this year.

Student winners received medallions. Many also received prizes such as tools of their trades or scholarships to further their careers and education. The SkillsUSA Championships is for high school and college-level students who are members of SkillsUSA.

Social studies degree at St. Olaf College

Anne Zagrodnik, of Martinez, a graduate of Aquinas High School, graduated from St. Olaf College in May with a major in social studies education.
