The trials and tribulations of family life will be brought to the stage in Evans in the Hindi comedy show Tu Tu Main Main.

The play will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center at the Columbia County Library in Evans.

"It was written a long time back, but this is still true in today's life," said Ravi Verma, the director.

He said the play centers on a husband and wife who draw closer together after a palm reader separately tells each that the other does not have long to live.

Verma said the comedy, which he likened to the television sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, illustrates how marital problems affect everyone in a family.

"The husband and wife are the only people who can repair each other," he said.

The director said the Hindi performing arts group, Caravan, has about 30 members. A number of them are involved in the production in various capacities, he said, and the play has a cast of seven performers.

"All except two actors are new," he said.

Verma said he enjoys working with performers who have never been in front of an audience.

"I create actors out of layman people," he said. "They've never been on the stage, but they have an interest to do acting."

Proceeds from the play will benefit children's organizations.

Tickets cost $10 or $20. They are available by calling (803) 507-0591, (706) 860-3228 or (706) 951-7236.
