Temporary editor

Next week's edition of The Columbia News will be edited and written by Marion Lee, of Evans.

Lee, one-time writer of "Lee's Breeze," which appeared in this newspaper, currently writes for The Augusta Chronicle and the Bell Ringer, Augusta College's newspaper.

Lee has agreed to take over the Columbia County newspaper for one week to enable the editor and his family to visit relatives and attend the PGA Golf Tournament in Columbus, Ohio.

The office staff will remain the same during the period, with Rebecca Jackson who writes, draws ads, keeps books, answers the phone and accomplishes whatever comes up around the office.

Subdivision fee

Columbia County commissioners passed a resolution last month requiring subdivision developers to pay a fee of $10 per lot to meet the cost of an inspection of streets, curbs and gutters.

The resolution also states that the county will no longer participate in constructing streets in residential subdivisions and proposed residential subdivisions.

All future subdivisions and expansions of subdivisions are to have paved streets, curbs and gutters, which are to be constructed by the developer.

Cleanup contract awarded

Luke's Garbage Disposal, of Evans, was the apparent low bidder for year-round cleaning service in Group 2 (Little River) at Clarks Hill Lake.

The Savannah District Engineers received 19 bids covering three different areas. The Evans firm bid $13,133 to provide year-round cleaning from the Clarks Hill recreation area at the dam site to Big Hart Creek Park, an area of 247.5 acres involving 13 public-use areas.
