If money is available, why hasn't board expanded foreign language?

Barry Paschal's June 17 column, "Let expansion crusade begin," was fair and informative. The staff at Steven's Creek Elementary is to be commended for working hard to instill a foreign language program in their school.

But the facts are still the facts. The program is being funded with Columbia County taxpayer money, all of our money, for a program that only a select group of children will benefit from. I am aware that other elementary schools had the chance to apply for the grant and most deemed it not a top priority. Much to my disappointment, my children's school was one of them.

If the CCBOE has additional "money sitting in the bank" as Paschal states, and money is not the issue, then my question is why have they not fought harder to ensure all elementary schools in Columbia County offer our children the chance to learn a second language?
