Superintendents visit fort
Columbia County School Superintendent John P. Blanchard served as the host to the 10th District school superintendents on Monday at Fort Gordon for their regular quarterly meeting.
Col. Paul T. Snowden, post commander, welcomed the superintendents to Fort Gordon where they were briefed by various department heads. Lunch at the officer's mess was followed by a tour of the Fort.
Superintendents who attended the meeting and tour were from Elbert, Warren Lincoln, Oglethorpe, Wilkes, Richmond, Walton and Taliaferro counties.
Weapons training
Stanton H. Morris of Harlem completed a series of training in weapons, orientation and exercise procedures on May 29 with Carrier Air Group Five at the Naval Auxiliary Air Station in El Centro, Calif.
Morris is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hogan Morris of Harlem and the grandson of Mrs. P.C. Morris and the late Mr. Morris of Winfield.
The Air Group, based at the Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego is preparing for a near future period of overseas duty in the Western Pacific.
