Army National Guard Pvt. Eddie D. Lee has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky. He is the son of Stracy Nixon and nephew of Charlene Howell, both of Evans. Lee is a 2004 graduate of Lakeside High School.
Army Pvt. Anthony S. Holt Jr. has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. He is the son of Anthony Holt Sr. of Grovetown, and is a 2006 graduate of Greenbrier High School.
Army Pvt. Derek J. Nelson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. He is the son of Doris Nelson of Evans, and is a 2006 graduate of Greenbrier High School.
Air Force Airman 1st Class Karya S. Hargrove has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Genetta Hargrove, of Evans, and Daniel Hargrove, of Augusta.
Local cadet graduates from The Citadel
Cadet Patrick John Wheale of Greenville, S.C., graduated May 5, from The Citadel. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani delivered the commencement address to the cadets and military enlisted personnel who completed their undergraduate degrees. Wheale earned a bachelor's degree in political science. Wheale also achieved Dean's List recognition and earned a Gold Star for achieving a 3.7 grade point average or higher. Wheale is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Wheale, of Martinez.
Appling Guard veteran re-enlists
Georgia Army National Guardsman, Staff Sgt. Curtis L. Crawford of Appling, a 30-year veteran of the Georgia Army National Guard recently re-enlisted for another year in Battery B, 1st Battalion, 214th Field Artillery in Thomson.
Second Lt. Douglas Holland graduated from Combat Systems Officer Training at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, on April 27. Holland was awarded the Col. Mike Gilroy Award, Jack Donovan Award and 563rd Academic Excellence Award. He has been assigned to Hurlburt Field Air Force Base, Florida, as an Electronic Warfare Officer on the AC-130 gunship. Holland is a 2001 graduate of Harlem High School and the son of Robert and Diane Holland, of Harlem.
