Headmaster leaving
Ron Whipple, who has served as headmaster of Augusta Christian Schools for the past two years, has decided to leave at the end of this school term. He may possibly be taking a similar position in Maryland.
The 51-year-old headmaster came to Augusta Christian Schools after leaving a position he held for 15 years at a Christian school in Asheville, N.C. Whipple confirmed his leaving the position in a telephone interview held on Monday.
"I've very much appreciated working at Augusta Christian Schools," said Whipple in a prepared statement.
Citizen award
Former Columbia County School Superintendent John Pierce Blanchard was honored as a "Distinguished Citizen" by the Georgia-Carolina Council of Boy Scouts of America. A reception dinner was held to honor him at the West Lake Country Club last Friday night.
Blanchard, a renowned educator and political leader in Columbia County, served as school superintendent for 32 years. He held the position longer than any superintendent in Columbia County history.
He became only the second person ever to receive the award. The last award was given eight years ago.
"I never knew they were going to honor me in this way," Blanchard said. "I really feel honored."
