Absentee voting is now available for the June 19 special election. Voters may cast ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday through June 15, at the Board of Elections office in the Columbia County Government Center, Building E, adjacent to the Board of Health. GOP women
The Greater Columbia County Republican Women will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grand China Buffet, 4368 Washington Road, in Evans.
Children's musical
The Children's Musical Theatre Ensemble will present The Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood Friday at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center, in Evans. Show times are: 11 a.m. is for home school, summer camp and church groups, with tickets $5, or free for chaperones; and at 3 and 7 p.m. for general audiences, with tickets at the door $12 for adults, $7 for students and children under 5 free. Baby sitter course
The American Red Cross of Augusta will hold a baby sitter training course from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Columbia County Library, in Evans, for children ages 11-15. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch. For information, call (706) 724-8481.
Plus-size group
A Curvaceous Cuties informational drop-in for the plus-size women's social group will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Georgia Safe Augusta, 4424 Columbia Road, Suite B, in Martinez. For information, go to www.curvaceouscuties.org.
Community fair
Harlem United Methodist Church will hold a community fair from 1-5 p.m. June 16, with information available from more than 35 area health and social-service agencies. A free chicken barbecue dinner will be available to the first 400 participants at 5 p.m., and at 7 p.m. the church will hold a revival service with Bishop Sunday Onouha from the Methodist Church of Nigeria.
