Converse College SGA election

Shontae Alston of Evans, a senior class officer at Converse College, has been elected by her peers to serve as Senator on the 2007-2008 Converse College Student Government Association. Alston is the daughter of Leroy and Cheryl Alston of Evans.

Who's Who nomination

Nicole Willis of Martinez, has been named to the 2007 edition of Who's Who among students in American Universities and Colleges.

Wofford College Honors Day award

Eric Marshall, a senior at Wofford College, received the "Heart of a Terrier" Leadership Award during Honors Day ceremonies May 3. Marshall, a finance and business economics major, is a member of the men's basketball team and Souljahs for Christ. Marshall is the son of Patrick and MiMi Marshall of Grovetown.

Security program

Matthew A. Brejda of Martinez, a student at Lakeside High School, will attend Presidential Classroom's National Security in a Democracy program June 10-16 in Washington, D.C. Matthew is the son of Jean and Drew Brejda of Martinez.

Washington and Lee University grad

Sarah M. Floyd received the juris doctor degree May 12 from the Washington and Lee University School of Law and graduated cum laude. At the Law Awards Ceremony, she was awarded the Virginia Trial Lawyers Award for effective trial advocacy. Floyd was involved with the Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse and the Moot Court Board. She was also the winner of the 2006 Mock Trial competition. She plans to be an associate at The Tiller Law Group in Richmond, Va. She received her A.B. degree from University of Georgia in 2004. Floyd is the daughter of Maureen O. Floyd of Evans.

Cedarville University graduate

Jessica Corbin, of Martinez, graduated from Cedarville University (Ohio) with a Bachelor of Arts in management on May 5. Corbin, who was homeschooled, is the daughter of the Rev. Robert and Marcia Corbin of Martinez.

Amy M. Canfield, granddaughter of Brian and Katherine Canfield of Evans, participated in commencement ceremonies at the College of Saint Benedict on May 12 in the Haehn Campus Center/Clemens Field House on the campus in St. Joseph, Minn. Canfield is a candidate to receive a Bachelor of Arts in political science.
