Those looking for an entertaining way to beat the heat this summer with their children might want to consider a summer movie series at two area theaters.

Evans 14 Cinemas will begin its summer show series for children on Tuesday. The series ends Thursday, July 26.
"We will show two movies each week," said Matt Crunk, the assistant manager of the Evans cinema. One movie will be shown on Tuesday, and a different film will be viewed on Thursday.
Showtime is 10 a.m., with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
"Seating is limited, and it's on a first-come, first-served basis," Crunk said.
Attendees may take advantage of a discounted concession.
"We will have a kid-sized popcorn and drink available for $1 each," Crunk said.
Evans Cinemas opened in 1996 and has offered the program since coming to the area.
"It's just a great way to get people out of the house and to remind our community that we're here to serve them," Crunk said.
For parents, daycares or church groups concerned about child-friendly content, be aware that "all films will have a PG or G rating," Crunk said.
Regal Cinemas, located in the Augusta Exchange, also will offer a free film festival, starting Tuesday and ending August 2.
A different film will be shown on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Show time is at 10 a.m. and doors open at 9 a.m.
Seating at the film festival is also on a first-come, first served basis, and the staff will try to seat families together, according to a theatre spokesperson.
Films shown at Regal Cinemas also will have a G or PG rating, and coupons for free meals at various establishments in town will be offered to children, courtesy of this year's sponsors.
