Football is still far off, but here's a look ahead

With the 2006-07 school year complete, it's time for football teams to enter summer workout mode. Daily weight-training workouts, passing camps, seven-on-seven drills, conditioning work and much more are in store for football players this summer.

Let's take a look at what the county's football fans have to look forward to this fall. The final schedules are out and some big dates lie ahead for the teams.

Augusta Christian will kick off the season with a road game at Orangeburg Prep on Aug. 24. The Lions hope they'll end their season at the same place. That's because the South Carolina Independent School Association state title game will be in Orangeburg on Nov. 16.

Harlem and Evans will face off in their annual season-opening match Aug. 31. This year, the game will be played at Harlem. The rivalry games continue over the next three weeks with Lakeside at Greenbrier on Sept. 7, Lakeside at Evans on Sept. 14 and Greenbrier at Evans on Sept. 21.

The rest of the season will be full of region games. Evans wins the award for quirkiest schedule with a Thursday night game at Brunswick on Oct. 18 and a Saturday afternoon game at Glynn Academy on Nov. 3.

Augusta Christian and Greenbrier will enjoy three straight weeks of home games, but the Wolfpack will play five of their last seven games on the road.
