Absentee voting

Absentee voting is now available for the June 19 special election. Voters may cast ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday through June 18 at the Board of Elections office in the Columbia County Government Center, Building E, adjacent to the Board of Health. Call (706) 868-3355.

Memory screening

The Alzheimer's Association of Augusta will hold free memory screenings conducted by Dr. Susan Smith and Dr. Shirley Poduslo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Elmcroft of Martinez, The Pass at Furys Ferry Road, in Martinez. Call (706) 731-9060.

Church concert

The McKameys will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church on Columbia Road, Martinez. Admission is a $5 donation at the door. Call (706) 863-1222.

Essay contest

The Fort Gordon Sergeants Major Association is holding its annual scholarship essay contest through Thursday. Applicants must be high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2007, and do not have to be affiliated with the military.
