I would like to commend the Fine Arts Department at Columbia Middle School. Under the able direction of Katie Bennett, director of bands, and Phillip Streetman, director of choral activities, a wonderful concert was presented to delighted parents and guests.
"Flashback" was the theme of the performance, which included music from the Beatles, Queen and a medley from the 1980s. Many "baby boomers" joined in and sang along with familiar tunes!
The students had obviously worked hard throughout the school year in their musical endeavors. The dedication of the directors was evident during the entire concert. Special tributes were shared by the students at the conclusion of the event as they recognized the impact of these two educators upon their lives.
In addition to providing memorable music, Columbia Middle School once again dedicated this concert to CSRA Happy Tails Rescue. Donations were collected and nearly $250 was shared with this non-profit animal welfare organization. All of these funds will enable dedicated volunteers to continue to rescue dogs and cats, provide medical care and adopt them into loving, permanent homes.
Bravo to the dedicated and talented educators, the hard-working "budding" musicians and the entire school community for their support of Happy Tails Rescue.
