The Columbia County Ballet is inviting the public to join its end-of-the-year celebration with a free outdoor performance.
The Martinez ballet studio's performing companies will take to the Columbia County Amphitheater stage on Tuesday as a gift to the community and to the students at the school, said Ron Jones, the studio's artistic director.
"We're wrapping up the year for our students before the summer courses," Jones said. "It is a way of celebrating."
The performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is a montage of the company's performances this season including performances from Oscar Wilde's story Selfish Giant, Great Scott and Sister Sweet, Jones said.
The younger dancers, Jones said, will be doing a Maypole Dance.
"It is quite intricate," Jones said, adding the 10 young dancers must perform intricate moves to properly weave, then unweave the Maypole. "If they make one error, that thing will not unweave properly. Each time they unweave it properly, it is a celebration."
Jones said the performance is the first of its kind and likely will become an annual event.
"The amphitheater, it is a beautiful venue," Jones said.
After the performance, the dancers will be presented a flower from Ladybug's Flowers and Gifts, Jones said.
