Torch run

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Georgia will begin at 9 a.m. May 21 at Columbia Square and end at the Justice Center in Evans, with law enforcement officers carrying the "Flame of Hope" as a fundraiser for Special Olympics.

Scholarship contest

The Fort Gordon Sergeants Major Association is holding its annual scholarship essay contest through May 31. Applicants must be high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2007, and do not have to be affiliated with the military.

Essay contest

The Student and Youth Travel Association Youth Foundation is holding its second annual Silver Lining Program essay contest for ages 14-19, who are asked to create an essay, video or other media presentation describing how they have been affected directly by the Iraq war.
