Fire donations

Donations of items are still being sought for firefighters battling the south Georgia wildfires. Especially needed are bottled water and sports drinks, beef jerky and Moleskin blister padding. Donations may be dropped off by noon Friday at all Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue stations, and at the office of The Columbia County News-Times, in the Publix Shopping Center, on Washington Road in Evans.
Arthritis walk
The 2007 CSRA Arthritis Walk will begin with 8 a.m. late registration Saturday at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, with all participants who raise $100 or more receiving a T-shirt. For information, go to www.2007arthritiswalkaugusta.kintera.org.
Gallery event
Original works featuring the Savannah River and Augusta Canal will be presented at the "Rivers, Rocks and Rapids" show at Broadstrokes Gallery, 7013 Evans Town Center Blvd., Suite 103, with an opening reception 5-8 p.m. Thursday. For information, call (706) 276-5416.

Voters are invited to hear candidates for the 10th District U.S. House seat and the 24th District Georgia state Senate seat at the Grovetown Merchants Association "stump meeting" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Grovetown's Liberty Park Community Center, 1040 Newmantown Road.
