Boating course

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will hold a one-day boating safety course from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and May 26 at Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue headquarters, 3910 Desoto Drive in Martinez. Jazz performance

The Augusta State University Conservatory Jazz Band will present Various Jazz Styles at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre at ASU. Admission is free.

Quartet to sing

The Proclaimers Quartet from Columbus, Ga., will perform in concert at 6 p.m. Saturday at Bellevue Chapel at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, 4501 Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown. The gospel sing is sponsored by Bible Fellowship Church. For information, call (706) 651-1971.

'Grease' musical

Third Pops!

University Health Care System will sponsor the third annual Pops! Under the Stars at 6:30 p.m. May 5 at the Evans campus of University Health Care System, 447 N. Belair Road. Art in the Park

Columbia County Arts Inc., will hold the second annual Art in the Park reception and festival May 4-5 at the Columbia County Library and Memorial Gardens in Evans. For information, go to www.columbiacountyarts.org.

Israel Experience

The annual Israel Experience will be from 1-4 p.m. May 7 at the Augusta Jewish Community Center, 898 Weinberger Way in Evans, with art, food and other Israeli cultural items and a petting zoo. Admission is free.

Books wanted

John Klement and other members of Boy Scout Troop 615 are holding a book drive to benefit Heritage Academy and Friends of Columbia County Libraries, collecting new and used books through Saturday.

Drop-off receptacles will be available at Wesley United Methodist Church, Greenbrier elementary, middle and high schools, St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, the Columbia County Library in Evans and at the offices of The Columbia County News-Times.

Benefit cruise

The third annual Augusta Canal Sunset Cruise to benefit the Jud C. Hickey Center for Alzheimer's Care will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. May 4 at the Canal Interpretive Center at Enterprise Mill, 1450 Greene St. in Augusta. Tickets cost $25 per person, and are available by calling (706) 738-5039.

Archery expo
