The Augusta Blues Society will turn a Martinez music store into an outdoor music venue Saturday.

Portman's Music Superstore at 4020 Washington Road across from Gerald Jones Honda will play host to a family-oriented Southern blues and rock concert.

Marlene Willard, an event coordinator for the blues society, said her group wants to branch out into Columbia County and bring blues music to younger generations. The headlining act is multi-instrumental blues artist Randy McAllister, of Novice, Texas.

A national touring act, McAllister blends roots music and Texas blues and can play drums, washboard and harmonica at the same time, Williard said.

She said the concert is the start of what the blues society hopes will become a series of concerts.

"I'd like to start doing some (concerts) in Columbia County, the family-oriented type events," she said.

Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, but coolers, alcoholic beverages and pets are prohibited.

The concert begins at 1 p.m., and opens with Augusta's heavy metal rock band Stagger. Tickets are $3 at the gate.
