An Evans teen is looking for gently used and new books as part of his quest to make Eagle Scout and promote literacy among area youths.

John Klement, 14, a Green-brier High School freshman, and fellow members of Boy Scout Troop 615 are seeking fiction and nonfiction books for all ages. Donations to the book drive for ages 4-12 will benefit The Heritage Academy in Augusta. All other donations will go to Friends of Columbia County Libraries.
"I looked at my hobbies and interests and since reading is one thing I really like to do, I decided I wanted to help other people by giving that opportunity to read to them," John said.
John, who is a Life Scout, said he hopes to collect 1,000 books for the drive.
The drive begins Saturday and lasts through April 28. Books can be donated at The Columbia County News-Times, the Greenbrier public schools, Wesley United Methodist Church, St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church and the Columbia County Library in Evans.
