My father was involved in a very serious automobile accident on March 16 which ultimately resulted in his death on March 29. A photograph that ran in The News-Times showed a close-up of Daddy's face while he was still trapped in his vehicle.

I live 3 miles from the Augusta National Golf Club, a 10-minute drive at the most but I allowed 45. Fifteen minutes after I left home I was walking through gate 9, the first time I'd ever been 30 minutes early for anything.

A series of honks, swerves and general noise coming off of Blue Ridge Drive in Evans last Thursday wasn't the sound of annoyed Lakeside parents stuck in traffic. It was the signal that the Lady Panther soccer team was ready for another home game.

Greenbrier No. 1 in region again
A new style of ball has taken shape on the Greenbrier baseball diamond this season. Gone are the five-home run games that Wolfpack fans enjoyed last year. In their place, speed and small-ball have become the main weaponry.
