An old rivalry will get a new twist this week when Lakeside meets Greenbrier in boys lacrosse.

The lacrosse game, which will take place at Greenbrier High School on Tuesday, will be the first regular season match-up ever between the two schools. Lakeside beat Greenbrier 16-2 in a preseason scrimmage earlier this year. Tuesday's game will count toward region play.

"There should be a lot of scoring," Lakeside lacrosse coach Ron Ritter said. "They were pumped up for the scrimmage. I think this one will be more physical."

The sport of lacrosse has yet to catch on in the Southeast as it has in other parts of the country. Lakeside was the first area high school to add a boys lacrosse team last spring. Greenbrier added a team this year.

It was only a matter of time before the two rivals clashed.

"It's just another sport between the two schools," Ritter said. "Our guys talk about it a little bit. I think I've heard more from Greenbrier. They're about at the same place we were last year."

Lakeside entered the weekend with a 2-5-0 record and nine games remaining on the schedule. Greenbrier holds an 0-3 record.

Tuesday's Greenbrier/Lakeside match at the Brierpatch is at 6 p.m.
