Evans student receives honors

John Harris, a junior boarding student at McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn., has received honors for his classroom performance during the first semester of the 2006-07 school year.

John was named to the Headmaster's List for earning all As in regular courses and no grade lower than a B-plus in honors or Advanced Placement courses. He also was named to the Faculty Recognition List for special acknowledgement of his academic efforts during the semester. He is the son of Mark and Beth Harris, of Evans.

NGCSU Dean's List

Bethany Dieterich, Suk Koh and Leonard Manning, all of Martinez, were named to the North Georgia College & State University's fall semester Dean's List for their academic achievements.

Furman University fall Dean's List

The following local students were named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at Furman University: Ann E. Pollard, of Appling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pollard; May L. Dirksen, of Evans, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John Dirksen; Ashley E. Sisco, of Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Sisco; Adnan Filipovic, of Martinez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Damir Filipovic; Mary E. Mangum, of Martinez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Mangum; and Jordan D. Walters, of Martinez, son of Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Walters.

Apprenticeships awarded

The University of Georgia's Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities has awarded the following local students $2,000 apprenticeships to engage in year-long research projects guided by faculty mentors: Sharon McCoy, of Evans, majoring in international affairs, mentor Stephen Shellman; Mohan Natrajan, of Martinez, majoring in anthropology, mentor Peter Brosius; Shivan Bhatt, of Martinez, majoring in biology, philosophy, international affairs, mentor Walter Schmidt; Sana Hashmi, of Martinez, majoring in microbiology, biology, (pre-med), religion, mentor Lance Wells; and Nithya Natrajan, of Martinez, majoring in genetics, mentor Mary Bedell.

Scholarship recipient

Stephen Michael Goldman, of Evans, was recently awarded a 2006 Georgia Engineering Foundation scholarship ranging from $500 to $5,000.

New honor society member named

Sara E. Buster, of Evans, a junior clinical exercise physiology major at Mississippi State University, has been named as a new member of the university chapter of Kappa Delta Pi honor society.

Darton College fall dean's list

Allie D. Young, of Evans, a full-time student, was named to the dean's list at Darton College for the fall semester for achieving a 3.4 or higher grade point average.

Berry College fall Dean's List

Patrick S. Allison of Martinez, has been named to the Dean's List for the fall semester for achieving an academic average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. His first major is in communications with a secondary major in art. He is the son of Thomas and Debra Allison.

Berry College 2006 fall graduates

Aaron Matthew Wright, son of Jeffrey and Adonna Wright of Grovetown, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in management and a minor in government. Justin Shawn Wallace, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dale Wallace of Augusta, graduated with a Master of Education with a major in early childhood.
