Martinez woman charged in fatal wreck

A Martinez woman has been charged in a Tuesday fatal motorcycle wreck on Wheeler Road in Augusta.
Richard Mulherin Jr., 48, of Middleton Court in Augusta, died from injuries sustained after his motorcycle collided with a Dodge Caravan at about 7:30 p.m. outside the Family Y at 3570 Wheeler Road, Richmond County sheriff's Maj. Richard Weaver said.
The driver of the van, Pamela Smith, 35, of Martinez, is charged with failure to yield while entering a roadway and second degree vehicular homicide, Weaver said.
Mulherin was traveling eastbound on Wheeler Road when Smith, who was exiting the Family Y, pulled into his path, the major said. Mulherin was later pronounced dead at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Weaver said.
Lakeside High student arrested on drug charge
A 17-year-old Lakeside High School student was arrested Wednesday morning at school on a charge of possession of marijuana, said Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris.
The arrest of Christopher Sullivan on the misdemeanor charge was made at 8:15 a.m. after a teacher alerted a school safety officer, Morris said.
Sullivan was taken to the Columbia County Detention Center and released on $1,100 bond, jail personnel said.

Semi trailers taken from Grovetown plant
The shipping manager at a Grovetown mattress factory told deputies Monday someone took two semi trailers from the facility without authorization.
The manager at Serta on Horizon West Parkway told deputies the 53-foot-long box trailers were last seen in the plant's lot on March 16. The two box trailers were owned by XTRA Lease, Inc., according to a sheriff's incident report. No suspects were named in the report.
Harlem home burglarized
A Thomson woman told deputies Tuesday someone burglarized the Harlem home she is moving out of and stole furniture and other items.
The 32-year-old told deputies someone smashed in the door of her former home in the 1200 block of Miles Road and stole a sofa and love seat, a weight set and a propane heater.
The burglary occurred while she was away from the home between March 13 and March 15, according to a sheriff's incident report.
Car stolen from Martinez dealership
A salesman at a Martinez car dealership told deputies Tuesday someone stole a car from the lot.
The salesman told deputies the keys to a green 2004 Honda Accord Ex sedan were still in lock up, but the vehicle was missing from the Gerald Jones Honda lot. The salesman reported no signs of forced entry at the scene.
