Columbia County officials will offer the first of four farmers markets starting Saturday.
//
The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Evans Town Center Park, the field at Ronald Reagan Drive and North Belair Road in Evans.
"This year, we have a wide variety of produce and plants, of homemade jewelry, pottery and baskets," said event coordinator Liz Stockstill, an intern in the county's Community Events Department. "We will also have a wide variety of craft vendors."
Stockstill said she expects several hundred people to attend the events, which are similar to the farmers markets the county put on last summer.
"We're hoping for a big turnout," she said.
Additional free markets are scheduled for April 7, April 28 and May 12 in the same location.
"We're getting new vendors everyday," Stockstill said.
Anyone who wants to become a vendor should either call Stockstill at (706) 312-7192 or visit www.columbiacountyga.gov and follow the link under the "residents" menu to the Community Events Department for rules and a downloadable application.
