The first time I saw Charlie Norwood, he was in an expensive suit wandering around my small convenience store in Evans looking for my famous sausage dogs. I guess what I really noticed first was his huge green pick-up truck. He approached with a hearty hand-shake and warm, broad smile.

Columbia County's Republican Party will hold precinct meetings starting with 9 a.m. registration Saturday at Greenbrier High School. Just like that, the honors for Charlie Norwood became memorials. With shocking suddenness, our congressman passed away Tuesday. He'd been home less than a week since his office announced he was ending cancer treatment and entering hospice care.

Greenbrier girls only ones left
And then there was one. The Greenbrier girls is the only public school team left standing in Columbia County basketball. Most of the county was shocked to hear both boys basketball teams from Greenbrier and Evans went down in the first round of the Region 3-AAAA Tournament.
Poythress makes his debut at UGA
When former Greenbrier star Rich Poythress injured his knee last fall it was an injury that was supposed to sideline him for his freshman season at the University of Georgia.
Lakeside boys swim to third place
The Lakeside High School boys swim team won third place at the Georgia High School Swimming and Diving State Championships on Feb. 10.
Greenbrier's girls advance
Greenbrier's 74-60 girls basketball win on Tuesday gave the Lady Wolfpack a bid to the Class AAAA state tournament. They were the only team in Columbia County to do so.
Swimmers from Evans earn titles
Two local swimmers took home individual state championships last weekend when more than 30 Columbia County athletes competed in the Georgia High School Swimming and Diving State Championships in Atlanta.
