Lakeside senior earns her STAR
Lakeside High School senior Lindsey Liu received Columbia County's top academic honor Thursday for earning the county's highest SAT score.
Lakeside is school of rock
Lakeside High School is offering six area bands the chance to rock out. The school's semiannual Battle of the Bands is scheduled for Feb. 24, and six bands are on the playbill. Each band will perform a 30-minute set, said Don Clauson, an event coordinator.
Commission OKs talk of shelter site
Columbia County Commission gave the go-ahead Thursday night for a master plan that would examine a possible move of the county's Animal Care and Control facility in Appling.

Back in 2005, one of the Lakeside High School students who shared the STAR Student recognition that year pointed out the obvious about the annual award. "It's nothing that special," he humbly opined. "The only selection (criterion) is the SAT score."

No matter what happens in the playoffs, the senior class for the Greenbrier girls basketball team (especially the trio of Tiffany Blackburn, Brooke Jackson and Michelle Swiec) should be beaming with pride. Some of their accomplishments are simply mind-boggling.
Area teams continue to postseason
A pair of Evans victories at Lakeside on Friday night wrapped up regular-season play. For Lakeside's boys and girls it marked the end of the season. For the rest of the county, this week signals the start of postseason play.

Athlete Spotlight: Brooke Jackson
Greenbrier's Michelle Swiec (5-foot-6) and Sara Oland (5-foot-3) don't cast large shadows. Don't tell that to Brooke Jackson. She has been in the shadows of the two starting guards for most of her high school career.
Wolfpack holds boys jamboree
Soccer season began Friday evening for most local boys high school teams when the boys soccer jamboree was held at Greenbrier High School. For four Wolfpack athletes, the season began a few hours earlier.
Wrestlers bring home region championships
All three Columbia County wrestling teams were well-represented Saturday at the Region 3-AAAA Traditionals at Lakeside High School.
