Self-defense class

A free self-defense class for women ages 12 and older will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday at Martial Arts America in Evans, next to Omni Health and Fitness. Those younger than 18 must have a release form signed by a parent or guardian. Participants should wear T-shirts and sweatpants. For information, call (706) 855-0516.

Garden seminar

The Columbia County Extension Service Gardening at Lunch program will be held at 12:10 p.m. today at the Columbia County Library. Extension Agent Charles Phillips will discuss pruning trees. Gallery event

The Broadstrokes Gallery, at 677-C N. Belair Road, in Evans, will hold a Valentine-themed reception, "Share Your Heart with Art," from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, featuring works in red by gallery artists and live music. For information, call (706) 860-6055.

Chamber breakfast

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce "Not Just Coffee" business breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Board of Education office on Hereford Farm Road, in Evans. Singing Valentines
