Commissioners are scheduled to hold the first of their regularly scheduled semi-monthly meetings Tuesday at the Columbia County Government Complex Auditorium in Evans, with the session preceded by oaths of office.
Newly elected District 1 County Commissioner Ron Thigpen will be sworn in by Probate Judge Pat Hardaway at 6:15 p.m. Also taking the oath of office will be returning county Commission Chairman Ron Cross and District 4 Commissioner Lee Anderson.
Commissioners also are expected to elect a vice-chairman at the meeting. The commission holds its regular meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the auditorium, with occasional meetings held at the courthouse in Appling.
On Wednesday, the Columbia County school board will meet at 8 a.m. at the board office on Hereford Farm Road, in Evans. Hardaway will administer the oath of office to newly elected countywide Chairwoman Regina Buccafusco and to re-elected Trustee Mildred Blackburn.
Board members will elect a vice-chairman for 2007 and set the board's meeting times, dates and locations, Buccafusco said.
The school board holds its regular meetings at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the board office.
