Kopald shines as Lady Cavs continue to roll
After winning just two games last season, the Augusta Prep girls team is starting to turn some heads in the Georgia Independent School Association. Jeremy Burden's squad has tripled last year's win total and stands at 6-2.
One of the reasons the Lady Cavaliers are having so much success has been junior Laura Kopald. In the Garden City Classic, Kopald poured in 35 points as Prep knocked off Greenwood 60-36.
To show that was no fluke, she netted 27 in a 60-29 victory over Dominion Christian. In the event's final game she scored 12 points as the Lady Cavs lost 42-32 to a tough Thomas Sumter team.
Navy beats Army
The U.S. Naval Academy defeated the Army cadets from West Point on Saturday in the annual Army-Navy football game, one of the nation's oldest rivalries.
Before that game, the Naval JROTC cadets at Greenbrier High School defeated the Army JROTC cadets from Lakeside High School in flag football - an annual event dating back only a few years.
Lakeside won the past two years, so Greenbrier's cadets were happy to come out on top in this year's matchup.
