Man is arrested after residents' 2 vehicles crash
An Augusta man was arrested Thursday after an Evans resident said he awoke to the sound of his two vehicles crashing.
Police booked Jamie Blake Little, 21, of the 3100 block of Skinner Mill Road, into the Columbia County Detention Center on six charges - two counts of entering an auto to commit theft, theft by taking, speeding, open container violation and driving under the influence, according to jail records.
The resident told deputies that just after 2 a.m. Thursday someone entered his Dodge Ram pickup and took a key from the glove compartment. The key had been used to unlock a Mercedes-Benz CLK320, which was then ransacked.
While someone was inside the Mercedes, the car rolled into the Ram, causing slight damage to both vehicles. The owner said he awakened when he heard the crash and saw a man get into a blue Chevrolet Cavalier.
A vehicle matching that description was stopped for traffic violations a short time later on River Watch Parkway at Alexander Drive. The homeowner identified the vehicle. A search revealed the stolen key in Little's back pocket. He was being held Tuesday without bond, according to jail personnel.
Marijuana farm found
An Evans woman recently told deputies that someone had been growing and smoking marijuana on her property.
The 69-year-old said Nov. 21 that someone had been in the woods behind her home without permission. Deputies found an area where someone had been trying to grow and smoke marijuana.
Many plastic water bottles, a metal cylinder and a plastic bong were scattered in the clearing. The bong was confiscated, but was destroyed when it was deemed unusable as evidence.
Home damaged in burglary
A house under construction in Evans received more than $12,000 in damage Friday when someone tried to steal the dishwasher.
Deputies were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle near 145 Pond View Drive at about 11 p.m. A representative from the builder, J.W. Ivey and Associates, arrived and said a neighbor had called him.
The company representative noticed the garage door open at the house and heard water running. Someone had tried to remove the $500 Whirpool built-in dishwasher by cutting the water line. Water was standing on the floor, causing what the builder said was estimated as $10,000 damage to the hardwood floors and $2,000 damage to the wallboards.
Stereo system stolen
A Lincare employee called deputies Nov. 21 after someone caused more than $4,000 damage to his vehicle and stole about $750 of stereo equipment.
The 31-year-old Augusta man said his sport utility vehicle was parked in the lot of the business at 4005 Enterprise Court in Martinez at 7 p.m. Nov. 20. When he returned to the Dodge Durango at 8 a.m., he found all windows broken or shattered, damage to the grille and hood, broken front lights, slashed front seats, and dents and scratches on all of the doors.
The owner also told deputies that $750 worth of stereo equipment was taken from the vehicle.
Intruder dines in home
An Evans man called deputies Nov. 22 after he discovered someone had had dinner in his house.
The 35-year-old told police that between 8 p.m. Nov. 21 and 5:45 p.m. Nov. 22, someone broke into a property he owns on Griswood Drive in Martinez and damaged it.
He said the intruder had brought food to the house, cooked it in the kitchen, eaten some of his leftovers and moved a glass vase.
The man said he was unable to determine whether anything was missing but said the burglar left nearly $100 damage, including a shredded bookbag, a damaged piece of drywall and a stained carpet.
