The recent elections demonstrated that the public is concerned about the future of education in Columbia County and not willing to accept that good is good enough.
The voting margin for Lee Muns for chairman of the Columbia County School Board made it clear that residents of Columbia County want to move forward. Muns is not satisfied comparing this county's education with its neighbors, but instead wants to set a standard for the entire country.
His vision of a national search for the next school superintendent starkly contrasts the parochial approach of the current board, which questions the need to "fly a candidate in to interview."
Lately, it appears our school system is living on its reputation. Overcrowding, school construction delays with no regard to budget, terminating qualified principals and recent bomb threats must make us question if we are truly happy with our current state. If the answer is no, or if we think we can do even better, the only choice Dec. 5 is Lee Muns.
